My Facebook feed is full of “Back to School” photos today – from Yankees, mostly, since public and private schools in the South have been in session for at least two weeks by now….
We’ve been back to school for a couple of weeks, as well, and this week, I’m going to try to set my musings about homeschooling down here in more detail.
Today was a first for us, in a way. It was the first real day of our Fall, which will be filled – more than usual – with classes and activities from external sources. We’re doing more than we did last year because, well, last fall we weren’t in the country, and when we returned, it took me a while to really plug in and understand what was available.
So today we’re in Huntsville, a bit more than an hour away. An easy drive. Listened to an audiobook on the way up. Morning classes on optics and astronomy at MInd Gear Labs, followed by an afternoon of First Lego League for J in the same place. While he’s doing that, M and I will go to the Rocket Center– free because of our McWane membership. There is lots to do up in here in Huntsville (and honestly, M could probably go to the Rocket Place every week and not be bored) – a lot of it free because of our various museum memberships. Plus, you know, nature and stuff.
Then later this week will be music lessons, then our Birmingham science museum classes, zoo classes next week, all with their regular extracurriculars.
I’ve been pondering J doing some online coursework, but I am loathe to be tied down any more than we are, so I will probably stick our toes in the water via this dock….
