After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.

First and last pages of the pertinent entry shared so you can see how it’s structured – with a retelling of the narrative, then ending with reflection questions and a prayer.
Remember, the stories are arranged in sections corresponding to liturgical seasons. The intention is to help the reader understand that Catholics don’t read the Bible as atomized individuals – we read with the Church.
So today, anyone who goes to daily Mass, or uses these readings in her prayer life will be hearing, along with millions of others around the world, the call of Christ to follow me.
It’s also the memorial of St. Paul Miki and Companions.
