Yes, the feast is today. Second Thursday after Pentecost. But celebrated here in the US next Sunday – and commemorated in other places around the world on Sunday, too – we are currently heading to a place outside the US that will be having a procession on Sunday. But…..let’s do this today anyway.

And then, three years ago, we were in Spain for Corpus Christi. The post describing what we saw in Seville and Caceres is here.

In both places, the path of the Corpus Christi procession was marked with rosemary:

Perhaps my favorite moment, though, was in another town – Trujillo. This was the scene in the late afternoon, with my description below:

In the late afternoon, even there, little girls in long white dresses appeared, walking around the plaza as the adults ate and drank. In general, it was an immensely civilized scene, so beautifully structured to allow everyone the freedom to do what they want – adults to enjoy each other’s company, children to be around and safe, but also on their own, exploring and just being. The girls in white dresses and boys in their suits, racing around with popsicles and soccer balls told me that here, too, there’d been a procession, a celebration, that here he’d been welcomed, too.
Diocese of Corpus Christi in South Texas is doing their diocesan wide Corpus Christi procession today (actually really cool, they start at the Cathedral and make prayer stops at temporary altars at the county jail and homeless shelter that are nearby before looping back to the cathedral. Parishes are all invited to participate, and there’s a lot of people who come in cultural dress).
So it is being celebrated today in some areas of the US. At least this one.
