As I mentioned, last week we were up in Wyoming for a few days. While there, I visited the lovely St. Stephen’s Mission church.
Since it’s Friday, it’s an appropriate day to share images of the church’s Stations of the Cross. I thought they were striking, beautiful and moving. The figure of Christ suffers but embodies a sort of strength and certainly nobility as well.
I presume the bird/halo is a stylized eagle. I don’t know if it’s typical to use an eagle symbol as a sort of halo in Native American Christian art in general, but it seems apt, considering the meaning of the eagle in Native American culture and even in Christian history.
