You’ve got a situation here!

June 28, 2021 by Amy Welborn

I’m sure many of you have seen the video that exploded over the weekend, recorded by a woman aghast at seeing a nude man in the woman-only section of a spa in LA – Wi Spa. The original is here featuring the pathetic posturing of the woke bro who muttered, “Well, maybe she’s trans” and concluded his fine argument with, “Well, you’re a dick!”

Here’s another step in the process – the original woman and another confronting the manager (who is female) about the situation. All the salient points are raised.

This isn’t an exact transcript, but a summary, sort of. The protesting woman’s words are italicized.

There was a nude man in the woman’s section of the spa.

Well, if he identifies to us as a woman….

So if I want to go to the men’s section, I can say I’m a man ..

Uh, well…if you identify…

Oh, so we can lie…..

Okay, I’m white….(the woman is Black)…I’m identifying as white…

Well…

So you’re telling me that you can look at a person, you can see their penis, you can know that he is a man…but if he says he’s a woman he can go in the woman’s section.

Blah, blah, gender-based discrimination..

It’s not discrimination. It’s an imposter. You cannot identify an imposter, someone faking themselves being a woman just because they want to call themselves a woman.

It’s about women’s SAFETY.

Of course, you have to feel for the manager. All of this is California state law, probably local law and probably corporate policy. She probably hates it as much as anyone. But the threat of lawsuits….and you know they’ll come.

But Cubana Angel is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Even laying aside the impossibility of changing sex – can’t happen, folks – gender self-id opens up every single woman and girl’s space to those who would exploit that “right” they can be sexually aroused and/or harm females.

In other related news, let’s see…

The Supreme Court let stand the Virginia girl-in-the-boys bathroom case. The more optimistic tea-leaves readers at Ovarit say that the decision at least spares us the possibility of the policy being confirmed at the Supreme Court level, explicitly. But there are more doubters.

So get ready for your public-school daughters to literally go all day without using the restrooms at their school because they don’t want to share that space with any boy. What will happen, I imagine is that schools, in anticipation, will just declare all restrooms gender neutral.

What else?

There were Pride marches in Europe over the weekend, and more than a few violence-against-TERF signage in evidence, including “KILL JK ROWLING.” In Spain, women gathered to protest proposed gender self-identification laws and were physically attacked by trans activists. Just a normal week. More at Glinner.

Finally, circling back – as we say – to the incident in LA – one of the persistent topics of conversation among radical feminists opposing trans rights is their anxiety and discomfort with the fact that their only real allies in this fight are political and social conservatives. Oh – freakin’- well. The Instagram account of the “based spa woman” is called “Cubana Angel” with a descriptive “Christ is King” – and she doesn’t leave the spa without letting everyone know that the fight is on “in the blood of Jesus.”

It’s going to be …interesting. And who knows. Maybe the possibility will dawn on one or two on this strange journey that if to say a man can become a woman is based on biological fantasy and general unreality, maybe saying that the creature growing inside a woman’s uterus isn’t a human being might be too…

Crazier things have happened. I think.

Update:

I don’t listen to, much less watch many/any youtubers or podcasts – I mean, who has the time or interest in listening to someone go on about their own dramas when we’ve all got our own? Even more informational podcasts- except for my stalwarts like In Our Time – I don’t have the patience for because I’d rather spend five minutes reading what you have to say rather than 30 minutes watching.

An exception is Karen Davis’ You’re Kidding Right? I don’t watch/listen to every single one, but I check with her about once a week to see what she has to say. And yes, she takes this on. She’s very good, clear and precise in her takes. And entertaining.

  • Last year at the beginning of Lent, I posted a section from a late 19th-century book called The Correct Thing for Catholics.  As I said at the time, Aunt Agnes would never in a million years become a Romanist or be seen in the environs of a Papist gathering, but still. Because I was watching The Gilded Age, I couldn’t help but hear all of these admonitions in Aunt Agnes’ voice. Today is the feast of St. Margaret Clitherow. Linked is a post on her, and attached are a couple of images - from the entry on her from the Loyola Kids Book of Saints, and the others from her shrine in York, which I visited last summer: There is more than one kind of death, and there is more than one kind of tomb in which the dead parts of ourselves lie, dark and still. Jesus stands outside every one of those tombs. His power is stronger than the stone, stronger than any kind of death. He stands; he desires our freedom; and to each of us he calls, “Come out!   On Flannery O'Connor's 98th birthday, a post with photos of her home at @andalusiafarm  as well as links to much of what I've written about her over the years.  Images from the Loyola Kids Book of Catholic Signs and Symbols, the Loyola Kids Book of Bible Stories, and the new Loyola Kids Book of Seasons, Feasts and Celebrations related to the #Annuncation.  From my 2020 Book of Grace-Filled Days. It's the Feast of the Annunciation - a few pages from my books related to the feast.  Most are published by @LoyolaPress. For more: Me on a certain element of John Wick 4. You can...probably guess which one.  Some thoughts on #solotravel and the #emptynest which of course turns into a Big Ol' Metaphor...
