7 Quick Takes

June 11, 2021 by Amy Welborn

—1 —

I guess I didn’t do this last week? Well, sorry – and this week is going to mostly links to my own stuff. Fairly tacky, but here we are.

First of all, I was in Living Faith on Wednesday. Go here for that.

Secondly, today’s the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart – from the Loyola Kids Book of Catholic Signs and Symbols.

More here.

— 2 —

I look at an essay on Victorian spiritualism from the New Yorker and try to explain the obvious.

— 3 —

TV review Hacks starring the amazing Jean Smart in a not-amazing show.

The film Captain Fantastic.

A Quiet Place II

Coming some time in the next 24 hours – a look at Mare of Easttown.

Speaking of movies – Movie Son is working his way through Howard Hawks.

— 4 —

Homeschool, sophomore year in high school wrap-up and look ahead.

— 5 –

Book look: Klara and the Sun.

(I don’t want to call it a review because…it’s not. It’s a reflection. I guess.)

What Makes Sammy Run?

— 6 —

Coming up – tomorrow, the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Sunday is, well…Sunday. But if it weren’t a Sunday it would be the feast of St. Anthony of Padua.

Both from the Loyola Kids Book of Catholic Signs and Symbols.

How is God calling me to love here, now? From St. Francis de Sales, whose feastday is today: It's coming! I'm trying to get better and more efficient at video for this app, so I'm practicing by doing reels and such related to this year's travel. Last time - my trip to Mexico in October. This time, our trip to England and Scotland from this past June:  Oxford, York, the Hadrian's Wall area, Lindesfarne, Edinburgh and London. Phew! In late October, I spent a week in the gorgeous, wonderful city of Guanajuato, Mexico. I'm currently preparing for another trip and am working on my editing skills (hah) so I'll be more efficient. As practice, here's a short survey of that Guanajuato trip. It was great - as I hope you can tell.
