Not a great deal to report, mostly because I’m in a rush. Slept a little later than I wanted to this morning, and so must get moving.
Monday:
Piano practice (yes – sorry/not sorry) in a rented rehearsal room at the National Opera Center, which is pretty close to our hotel. Then the Whitney with friend and collaborator Ann Engelhart. (Check out her Instagram! – she does wonderful stories of creating watercolor pieces.) Then lunch, after a wander through Chelsea Market – too crowded. Then up to Hudson Yards, to check out the Vessel and the Spanish food court that’s opened there. Then back to the room, a rest, and out to dinner with son #1 – dinner at a tiny Italian place in Greenwich Village – no reservations, cash only, super friendly yet still efficient service, where I was seated, in the close quarters that those places are – against a wall, literally ten inches or so separating me from Gabriel Byrne. All credit to Son #1 for recognizing him, and since I really have never absorbed his presence in anything I’ve seen, I had nothing to say to him, but it was interesting to experience. (And yes, it was he – and the conversation that drifted my way was all about acting….)
Then youngest and I hopped on the subway up to Time Square, just to walk around a bit, then back to the room. More later…
