Charleston is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the south, if not the entire country these days, and hotel rates from March through late fall show it, especially on event weekends, and since there’s an event almost every weekend, you’re stuck. Because of the Ravenal Bridge 5k this weekend, it was hard to find a Motel 6 for under $200/night. My eagle eye finally got a special via booking.com, the price of which for (not a Motel 6) doesn’t give me the worst case of hives ever….just a mild case.
(My son, wife & grandson have a cat, and I have a son very allergic to cats, so staying at their place can’t happen).
I thought about something at Folly Beach (they are nearer there now than before their home purchase – their apartments were on the other side, where Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island were our beaches) – but that was all more than I wanted to pay as well for just three days.
And I’m glad I didn’t because we went to the beach for a bit today and it was the beach, which is always a plus in my book, but it wasn’t swimming beach conditions and it was overcast. So a couple of hours wandering was fine.
