Amy,
As one who did fancy diving for two years when young and reached the level of a two and a half from the high board and then quit slightly later to move on to other things, I would say keep watch that the younger guy always knows that the sport carries with it an abiding danger to the spinal cord…either from hitting the board or hitting the bottom when diving in murky nature….or as in my case when cliff diving, I passed a jagged coral side wall just inches from my face in the Caribbean after a one and a half’s rotation moved me too far inward. Strangely he needs prudence and a touch of the dare devil combined in just the right amounts. I left diving because I had too much dare devil and too little prudence at the time and incidents were whispering that to me and I moved on to other things…I believe next was 7 card rummy… where the only danger was nodding off and falling off the chair during a hand.
Amy, carpe diem! Congratulations on seizing control of your kids’ education. It’s not homescholling, it’s home education, and ironically, most of it doesn’t happen at home.
Just remember that your kids won’t be properly socialized. :-) All that exploring God’s creation leaves them lacking in age-appropriate social skills.
