Do you love my header?

August 24, 2010 by Amy Welborn

I do. I really do and want to keep it there forever. But I loved the last one, too! So what shall I do?!

This is right down the road from my house, on Crestwood Boulevard (aka highway 78) in Birmingham.  Not a heavily Catholic area, you’ll be shocked to learn.  I don’t know anything about whoever it is who erected the Divine Mercy billboard, but I do love that it is right next to the bondsman’s ad. Both promising freedom, of different sorts.

Maybe EWTN? I think of Birmingham as the Catholic Capital of the South.

  2. on August 24, 2010 at 8:57 pm Amy Welborn

No – there’s a name on the billboard. If I had more energy, I would check it out.

EWTN maintains a very low profile in Birmingham. There’s a post in that at some point.

Once I drove past Aaron’s Rents, and their large sign said “Come in today, Everyone is pre-approved.” The church I served at the time was two miles down the road, but most of the congregation drove past.

So I put the same thing on the church sign. They’re still reminding me about it! The complementary contrast really struck a chord.

To answer your question: Yes, yes I do love your header

  6. on August 24, 2010 at 11:23 pm Amy Welborn

Gracias! After I posted, I thought…oh, I’m opening myself up there…I hate your header, and while you’re asking, I hate you, too!

I love you and your header both. (In a healthy, just-another-blog-reader-way, hehe.)

Like the fresh sharks in the bottom corner, too. And chicken. Fills out the scene nicely.

    I always love your headers!

It seems like there is always a story there….

    Love it.

Bondsmen on the left, sharks on the right–I’d say the Savior is well placed in the middle.

It’s a compelling photo….but it doesn’t have the right balance for a header, in my humble opinion.

    Love it!

“…doesn’t have the right balance for a header”

I don’t get that, but I am not artsy. I tend to see what is there and not what is not there.

I love the header and your blog. I enjoy reading your thoughts and about your life and travels.

All the best to you and yours.

p.s. You haven’t written about your Dad in a long while, hope he is well. Is he as sweet as he seems?

I do love your header! Those Divine Mercy billboards are all over Savannah, GA, too. While I love seeing Jesus at stoplights all over, I don’t quite understand what the message is supposed to be. Ya know? Cleveland Divine Mercy and a phone number? It’s confusing, IMHO. Like I said, though, it’s great to see Jesus all over the place! :)

Love the way you select and refresh the images for your header, Amy!

I’ve never bought in to the notion that a picture is worth 1,000 words. But it might be worth 900 words, if you account for inflation.

I don’t see how anyone could not like the header…Other than what was noted above about maybe the lack of balance because of the unusual size of the header in proportion to the picture…However, the Divine Mercy billboard is something we rarely see out west, so it was cool to see a glimpse of the boldness of Catholic faith back east. The fact that it is located between Shark’s Fish and Chicken and the Bail Bonds ad is priceless…God bless you!

I want to know why that store seems to be selling Fresh Sharks…

  18. on August 26, 2010 at 2:28 pm Amy Welborn

The weird thing (or not) is that as of this morning, the “Sharks” facade has been removed – I guess they went out of business (had only been there for about a month)

Maybe the “Shark” place was there for just a week…

    Get it? Shark. Week….

    Nothing. No one.

    Sigh..

    I like your header.
