Barbecued Shrimp at Mr. B’s Bistro.
(My annual meal at a restaurant requiring reservations. Excellent, with a high quality of service, as well – which you’d expect, but which was nice to experience all the same. Pleasant not be greeted with “Hi guys.” I was nervous about taking the boys, but they were very welcoming of children.)
Southwest Wax Worms…Crispy Cajun Crickets…Cinnamon Bug Crunch at the cafe at the Insectarium.
Exoskeletons…antennae…spindly little legs…Is there really a difference? Interesting how for some of us (me included), especially in the West…there definitely is.
(The Insectarium was our choice of the nature-centered attractions. We are zoo-ed out at the moment, and the Aquarium didn’t hold much interest for us either at the moment – good thing too, because the lines were astonishing to get in, as we saw when we walked by on Tuesday. It was also the cheapest, plus the nice lady at the Louisiana Visitor’s Center off I-10 gave me $5 discount coupons. Win.
The Insect museum had a very good section on insects and New Orleans history – mosquitos, termites and such. Also a room filled with really beautiful pinned-down specimens, artfully arranged to highlight color, shape and size. The live specimens were fine, but honestly, I’ve been to a couple of zoos with live insect collections that were as good or better – San Diego, I think (not surprisingly), but another that escapes me at the moment. They’re all closed on Mondays, just so you know.)
