2001? 2006? Who knows?
My old house in Lakeland. The porch was closed in in 1950′s-era siding when I had it. Removing it was beyond my capabilities at the time. The new owners did nicely.
Churches of the day:
Ignited Church in Lakeland. There’s a whole history behind this church and its pastor, but his most recent claim to fame was bringing Todd Bentley to town last year. I thought it was a particularly striking grocery store at first, what with the yellow signage there. But then I saw the video on the sign – which flashes moments in Strader’s preaching.
I don’t know about you, but what ignites me is absorbing the impact of God’s own sky right there. At one point, driving back up from Lakeland, there was a classic Florida sky moment -From the expanse of sky in front of me bending around to my left were masses of clouds, mixtures of grey and white. Looking from right to left, in one sweeping glance, you could take in three different rainstorms sheeting downward and then, in that southernmost glob, rays of sun bursting through. All at the same time. Gorgeous.
Signs in front of Dove World Outreach in Gainesville, just down from my friend Dorothy’s house. They say, “Islam is of the Devil,” and the group has been sending kids to school the past week w/t-shirts bearing the same message.
St. Joseph’s in Lakeland. Went to Mass there this morning. The last time I was there was for our wedding. I ran into a former student, whose sister and brother-in-law had done the music at said wedding. She is now married and her husband teaches theology at Tampa Jesuit, where Michael taught theology a lifetime ago. It was definitely a full-circle kind of moment.
I went to visit a dear friend who is quite ill. I don’t want to violate her privacy, so that’s really all I’ll say about that except to ask that you pray for Mollly and all the sick. As you always do.
