Is a 7-year old TI-83 calculator that won’t respond to punching numbers and says “Error:Memory” worth salvaging? If so, how does one do it?
(Batteries have been replaced. I’m sure that’s not the issue, but just in case you are wondering.)
It was David’s, and is now Katie’s and worked til last week, now doesn’t.
I would love to not have to replace it.
Any thoughts?
Got it! (Reset the memory)
Gaudete!

Did you try replacing the watch battery that serves as memory backup, I think that is necessary for a true reboot. Or so I remember from my TI-85 days. Don’t post if already suggested…
have you tried tech support at TI.com?
Two other suggestions: 1) remove ALL the batteries including the backup watch battery, blow out the i/o port using a can of compressed air (most electronics places have ‘em), clean the battery contacts rubbing with a pencil eraser and wipe out and thoroughly dry the battery compartment, reinstall all batteries and try it. 2) The circuit board may have been jogged out of place causing a short or bad connection to battery compartment contacts. Checking/fixing requires removing the back panel and great care (discharge static) … but it may be worth a try.
Gaudate, indeed! Glad the reset worked!
Darn. And I thought this was going to be a Did You See Any New Pink/Rose/Dusty Rose/Definitely Not Purple Chasubles On Your Priest This Gaudete Sunday? kind of a post.
(Answer from my parish: The new pastor had a new bright pink Gothic-cut chasuble, with a “Y” yoke, putting aside the regular purple chasuble with the wide pink collar that we’ve been using for those two particular Sundays for the past few years.)
(By the way, can anyone other than a Catholic write that kind of a sentence?)
