Prayer
That scholars and intellectuals, by sincere search for the truth, may come to know the one true God.
That the Church, aware of its missionary identity, may strive to follow Christ faithfully and to proclaim his gospel to all peoples.

Obviously not in Alabama. Fort Wayne, a few years ago.

When Cardinal Levada was first named to the CDF, a number of bloggers were more than concerned and basically said that PBXVI was crazy for doing it. The move created a lot of negative comments at the time.
Frankly, I was content to trust the Pope, and it seems the trust was warranted – it appears that the Cardinal is doing a very good job.
I think its time for more than a few mea culpas out there. Anyone want to get started?
Martin over at Papal Encyclicals has it on-line so you won’t have to use PDF.

I think this is sorely needed. It is charitable to other religious groups without compromising the integrity of the gospel at all. I am impressed by Pope Benedict’s confidence in the gospel truth to draw men. We don’t need any tricks. Just speak the truth in love and let the spirit do the rest. It makes a lot of church growth books seem silly.
Ok, I have a question on this one if anyone can answer.
#11 of the document second paragraph says “Evangelization is not only accomplished through public preaching of the Gospel nor solely through works of public relevance”.
What does “works of public relevance” mean with respect to Evangelization? I was think at first something along the lines of a St. Vincent De Paul Society, KoC, or Catholic Hospitals and schools. But I don’t think those deal primarily with Evangelization. Does it perhaps mean expressions of public witness, such as Eucharistic procession in local towns or for feasts of the BVM?
Thoughts?
I don’t get this Doctrinal Note. What it says is utterly obvious: Catholics have an obligation to promulgate, and non-Catholics have a right to hear, the fullness of Christian truth as contained in the teachings of the Church Christ Himself founded. Anything less is a failure of charity. I’ve been operating this way for years.
Hasn’t everyone else? Who are these slackers?
No, because Archbishop Amato probably wrote it.
