Biblia Clerus

December 12, 2007 by Amy

A pretty amazing new website from the Congregation for the Clergy, Biblia Clerus provides a wealth of resources.

Central to the effort is the cross-indexing of Scripture with references from the Early Church Fathers, Aquinas, important Church councils, Magisterial texts (wait…the Magisterium?? Never mind.)  and spiritual writers.

Do you know how much I could have used this in the past?

I’ve no idea how comprehensive it is – although it seems quite comprehensive. And I noted one error – the intro given to the Gospel of Matthew actually belongs with Malachi. Couldn’t find a “contact” email to notify them, though.

The English Bible translations are the RSV and the NAB.

Also at the site are the 1917 and 1983 Codes of Canon Law and the Code of Canon Law for the Eastern Churches.

This looks like a good partner site to http://www.papalencyclicals.net

I also noticed that the Code of Canon Law is only in Latin, or at least I couldn’t find the English translation. :(

That’s great, I’ll mark it. Now if they could like this with this site on the Early Church Fathers underdevelopment would make it ideal one stop theological surfing.

    This site is great.

As for language of the Code, note that the English section of the site shows the Code in Latin, but other sections of the site show the Code in the vernacular.

The French section of the site does show the Code in French. See http://www.clerus.org/bibliaclerusonline/fr/index4.htm

The Italian section at http://www.clerus.org/bibliaclerusonline/it/index4.htm shows it in Italian.

The Spanish section of the site shows the Code in Spanish at http://www.clerus.org/bibliaclerusonline/es/index4.htm

I passed this on to a friend with a PhD from Louvain in the 1980s before the Internet. He moaned and groaned thinking of all the time he could have saved researching his dissertation on “works” in Paul.
