From the Aggie Catholic:

The USCCB is once again re-writing their statement on political life. In a media release, they gave contact information where you can ask for a draft of the document. I did so, and got a draft of the new document they are working on. …
Here is a sampling – warning, this will be long. Remember, that this is a draft. A well-done draft.

An overlooked but important “red button” issue, where we all need to re-examine our consciences re: the criticism that we focus too exclusively on the “unborn” category of the most vulnerable amongst us:

Option for the Poor and Vulnerable

A basic moral test for our society is how we treat the most vulnerable in our midst.

[Challenging and a good reminder. We DO have a preferential option for the p o o r .]

The category of “poor” ought focus on those less than 24 hours old – the US infant mortality rate (5/ooo) is the next to lowest among 36 industrialized nations, ahead of Latvia ~ ~ ~ but don’t congratulate yourselves ~ ~ ~ factor in “poverty” and the USA’s minority babies die at twice that horrific rate (10/ooo)!!!

And the “Pottery Barn” nation we are caretakers of?
12 Iraqi infants die for every US infant (mortality rate of 59/ooo) placing that country bottom of the “middle income” league with a stat worse than or equal to three of the bottom five “developing” countries.
    (Lower table, page 34)

For a poor unborn American foetus, the US is only marginally safer to begin life that the best place in the developing world, Vietnam. What does that say about our priorities? Thirty years after we vanquished the “evil commie” Vietnamese, their babies stand as good a chance of surviving the entrance down their mother’s birth canal as a neglected unborn American?

    My bad –
“US infant mortality rate (5/ooo) is ranked the next to lowest …”
    and
“12 Iraqi infants die for every US infantwho succumbs as a neonate…”

Sure, more politics while the Archbishop of San Francisco is coddling homosexuals and giving Communion to men dressed in drag whose only purpose is to mock the Church and insult the Body and Blood of Christ.

    Perfect!

That the Church's pastors may be ever more docile to the action of the Holy Spirit as they teach and serve the people of God.

Guided by the 2nd Special Assembly of the African Synod of Bishops, may the local Church find effective ways to promote reconciliation, justice, and peace.

I once thought and still think that an encounter with monasticism challenges everything that we think about life and our purpose here in the great exile.
